Pantone Color of the Year 2022
Very Peri
Every year Pantone USA picks the color of the year predicting what will be the most sought after look for that year. This year the Pantone Color Institute selected Very Peri because, according to the Executive Director, Leatrice Eiseman, “ it brings a novel perspective and vision of the trusted and beloved blue colored family, encompassing the quality of the blues, yet at the same time with its violet red undertone, Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages creativity and imaginative expressions.”
Very Peri is definitely not one of my favorites. I feel like I have a definite love hate relationship with periwinkle. That being said, when I see Very Peri and a mixture of bright blues, creams, and grey, I can see the draw.
I think what I like most about Very Peri is how conflicted I am about it. There are times when it makes me smile and nod in approval, but other times I just want to shake my head and cringe.
I tend to lean towards colors like burnt orange, gold, and emerald green. I love a vibrant ocean blue. I love jeweled tones a lot. All of these will typically make me happy.
My own personal favorite continues to be Pantone’s 2004 Color of the Year, Tigerlily (17-1456.)
