Crochet essentials

I don’t know about you, but I love it when people share their favorites and recommend the items that have worked best for them. Sometimes finding something to use for a new project can be so overwhelming when there’s so much to choose from. Hopefully this post will help you with that!

Full disclosure: I am an Amazon affiliate which means I do make money off of any sales made by the items you might purchase using my links. That being said please don’t let this discourage you from checking things out. Also, I would highly recommend price checking things at other stores too. Now that all that is out of the way, let’s get to it!

Here are the crochet essentials that anyone wanting to begin, or even build on their skills, should have on hand. You definitely need a hook and yarn to begin with. As you start to learn more skills and want to try different kinds of projects, you’ll want to expand more on your yarn selection and hook sizes.

Stitch markers are an essential to have on hand. There are some projects you will start that truthfully without stitch markers, you will be lost. I also recommend beginners who have a hard time seeing stitches, to use stitch markers on every stitch they make until their eyes become more accustomed to spotting them. More on that in a future blog post.

Of everything I’ve listed, probably the only non essential is the yarn winder. I can tell you I’ve only used mine a handful of times. It’s fun to use, but I can’t truly say it’s an essential.

So with that, check out my recommendations and comment below if you have some essentials you would recommend or any questions you have!

Crochet Hooks and Sets:

I’ve tried a few different kinds of crochet hooks-some plastic, some bamboo, and some aluminum. I don’t have any favorites really. I just have always selected the most economical one that was in stock and went from there. That being said, I have seen so many amazing artists out there that make some custom hooks that would make anyone drool! So if you want something unique and one of a kind, definitely do some searching for custom-made goodies.

These are some of the hooks I currently have in my collection or similar to ones I have.

Yarn and Thread:

Click on each picture to see which yarn was used for these creations. If I know which color was used, I will make sure to link to the exact one. Otherwise, I will link to another color from that same brand I used.

Accessories:

Stitch markers and yarn needles

Blocking mats

Scissors

Yarn Winder

Happy Crocheting!

xoxo,

Bernadette
